Several studies and extensive research suggest that there may be a link between the health of your teeth and the state of your heart. While experts are still not 100% certain about the link, the statistics do suggest there is a strong connection. While it may sound odd, experts have spent many years studying the link and have significant findings that everyone should take seriously.
One study indicated that there was a lowered risk of having a heart attack by 24% when people got their teeth professionally cleaned twice every couple of years. Another study suggested that regular good dental care led to a 13% decreased risk of having a stroke. The risk of stroke was also connected to having fewer teeth, oddly enough. The study stated that those with fewer than 21 teeth were at a higher risk. One report noted that gum disease alone was a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Some research has found that clogged arteries in the legs are directly related to gum disease, in fact. The main issues come from bacteria in the mouth and inflammation. That is why it is essential to brush at least three times a day, more if possible.
Another theory is that it could just be down to personality types. It is possible that people who are keen on keeping good oral hygiene are also keen on living healthy and exercising, hence, they have better heart health and vice versa; people who are careless about oral hygiene may also be less concerned with living a healthy lifestyle and have bad habits that lead to heart problems.
